Diabolic Oath/Unholy Barbaric Hymns/Sentient Ruin Laboratories/2026 EP Review

  Portland,  Oregon's  Diabolic  Oath  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  psychedelic  and  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  ep  "Unholy  Barbaric  Hymns"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

  Apocalyptic  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  bestial  growls  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  The  ep  also  has  its  psychedelic  moments,  angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  synths. 

  On  this  recording  Diabolic  Oath  adds  some  psychedelic  touches  into  their  war  and  bestial  black/metal  style  to  create  something  very  different  from  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Esotericism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Diabolic  Oath  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Emblazoned  Upon  Ebony  Winds"  and  "Vomiting  Flames  in  Rapturous  Conflagration".   8  out  of  10.
