This is a review of a compilation called "Forsvunnet Filosefem- A Tribute To Burzum" which was released by Mirkwood Productions in 2012 and we will review the songs one by one.
Symbiosis brings us "Daudi Baldrs" a song off one of Burzum's ambient albums, adding more drum programming and avant garde parts that where not present on the original with the band adding new elements to the song.
Next up Aepulruna with "Daet Pe Hwilium Waes; Wearges Leope (Det Som Engang Var)" a long and epic song in length with the band adding modern day neo classical and ambient elements to the song, while the keeping the heavy guitars and dark atmosphere of the original song in addition the replace the screams with spoken word parts and clean singing while style retaining some of the screams.
Next up is Urak-Hai with "The Crying Ork" a song which utilizes synths and an atmosphere that reminds me of the Lord of The Rings" films.
Next up is Waldschrat with "Black Spell of Destruction" which sounds more primitive and depressive sounding than the original.
Next up is Tamerlan with "Die Liebe Nerpus" a song that utilizes alot of acoustic guitars with more of a folk music feeling than the original version.
Next up is Hrafnblod with "War" which adds more deeper vocals and heaviness than the original while still remaining true to the classic.
Next up is Hoyland with "Jesus Tod" which takes away the guitars from the originals adding more synths as well as turning the cover tune into more of a dark ambient song instead of being black metal while still retaining the feeling in the vocals.
Vorgum brings us "I Heimr Helgar" a song off one of the ambient albums which the band changes alot by turning into a black metal song with evil screams and primitive riffs while retaining the dark atmosphere of the original.
Next up is Forgotten Land with "Moti Ragnorokum" a long and epic song that remains true to the original which was from the ambient phase while sounding more primitive.
Next up is Melankolia with "Det Tod Wuotans" another song from the ambient area which adds more tribal drumming along with a more primitive feeling than the original.
Next up is Frostwork with "Dunkelheit" with this version adding more harsh noise elements to the song while retaining all of the guitars and vocals of the original while the screams sound more evil on this one.
Next up is Almofar with " Han Som Reiste" an epic dark ambient song that remains true to the original.
Next up is Werther with "Erblicket Die Tochter Des Firmaments" a long and epic black metal song that remains true to the original version while adding more of a guitar attack and depressive black metal screams.
Next up is Soufferance with "Hermodr a Helford" which remains true to the original version which was released during the ambient phase.
Next up is Garden Of Grief with "Glemselens Elv" a very long end epic in length black metal song that has a very heavy bass line and melodic guitar riffs which is also the first cover tune from the comeback album after Vikerness was released from Prison along with a mixture of clean singing and grim sounding screams.
Next up is Walden with "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" a song that utilizes acoustic guitars and sounds more neo folk and primitive than the original version.
Next up is Nordfolc with "StemmenFra Taarnet" a very raw and primitive sounding black metal song that remains true to the original version while adding a more dark atmosphere to it.
Next up is Gorthorn with "Illa Tithandi" a very long and epic in length dark ambient song that adds more modern elements that where present on the original.
Next up is Winternight with "Belferd Baldrs" another song from the ambient days with this remake sounding more dark and primitive than the original version while adding more dark sounding musical keys.
Next up is Alvheim with "Et Hvitt Lys Skogen" a long and epic in length black metal song which remains true to the sound of the original version of the song.
Next up is Arboretus with "A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit" which is an acoustic guitar version of the original version while it still retains the black metal elements in the vocals.
Next up is Skygge with "Lost Wisdom" a very dark and primitive sounding black metal song that remains true to the original version while having more of a depressive feeling in the screams
Next up is Dysonsphere with "Channeling The Power Of Soul Into A New God" which is more of a dark ambient take on this classic song.
Next up is Antecantemementum with "My Journey To The Stars" which adds a more modern depressive black metal touch that was not present on the original.
Next up is Kzag Bhat with "Feeble Screams From Forests Unknown" which sounds a little bit more symphonic than the original while still keeping the raw and primitive elements of the original while the vocals are more deep than high pitched.
Next up is Wrapped In A Sheet with "Ea, Lord Of The Depths" with this version adding more synths and neo classical elements in the beginning before turning into a more raw and primitive sounding black metal song that sounds more raw, primitive and grim sounding than the original.
Closing the compilation is Plagueweilder with "Tomhet" a very long and epic in length dark ambient song that is more primitive sounding than the original version.
In conclusion I feel this is a great compilation with different takes on the classic Burzum songs, and if you are into black metal, neo-folk, neo-classical, ethereal and dark ambient music you should enjoy this recording. RECOMMENDED BUY.
