The Mist From The Mountains Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

-Band was officially formed January 2020. Tuukka (guitarist) and I (Tuomas, vocalist) had the idea of this band already few years and Tuukka was already composed some material. We were living in totally opposite ends of Finland and we were also a bit inefficient so nothing happened before we asked Kim (also vocalist) to join to the band. That was January 2020 and then things started to happen quite quickly. Sami was asked for drums and Henri for bass & synths and soon we had first demo versions recorded and then we were ready to start to record our debut album.

2.You have a new album coming out towards the end of January, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

-Musical style has been really clear for us from the beginning. We were all growing listening to black metal and especially Tuukka like this kind of a bit more melodic stuff. So the style and material came naturally.

3.Most of the band members have experience playing in other bands around Finland, what is it that you bring into the music of 'The Mist Of The Mountains' that you were not able to do with your other groups?

-All the other bands of the members are more or less different style. Tuukka is the main composer and he has not been in any other bands for 20 years, so he has fresh ideas without a burden of the other bands. I need to give a big credit for Henri as an assistant composer; his own band is quite different style these days so he also had fresh ideas and additions for the final result.

4.Some of your lyrics cover occult and mythology themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the topics?

-It’s about learning to be mentally stronger using the methods and wisdoms of occultism and mythology. We are all quite much outdoor people whose minds rest in the middle of nature and nature is cruel especially in the far north. So it’s a perfect match to get stronger and be the Master of Wilderness.

5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

-Big picture was already given quite well in previous question, but certainly I need to add death and fire to the list. All these mentioned topics are strongly connected with the nature and they create a strong entity together.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'The Mist From The Mountains'/

-Tuukka was living few years in very far north, the only mountain area in Finland, where the Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian borders crosses. His residence was right below the Finland’s most well-known mountain or fell as we call them here. I was also visiting at his place many times and we had some very nice hiking and skiing trips on the mountains together over there. And there is no any goddamn skiing centre, that place is pure wilderness. So, The Mist From The Mountains was quite clear choice for a bands name as it has very strong connection for us in real life.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

-All the pictures are taken by Tuukka during the years he was living in Lapland. Front cover picture is a water fall out there and the final result of the front cover and whole lay out of the album was finished by Henri. So this album is quite much do-it-yourself album by the band, excluding the mastering. And the mastering was done at Tico Tico Studios, which is also located in Lapland.

8.Does the band have any plans for live shows in the future?

-Yes, our first gig was just agreed yesterday for the late spring. I don’t tell more; let the gig organizer release the line-up of the happening first. More gigs will be done, but nothing else agreed yet.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

-So far all the reviews, excluding one, have been positive or even praising. Individual feedback has been the same quite much. Those who don’t like our music do not bother to inform us about it, I guess.

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

-We all, except Tuukka, have some other active bands indeed. I’m just not the right person to talk about those bands, so you’ll hear about them when the time is right.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

-The style remains the same in a big scale, but for sure we are not going to do “the same album” again. Tuukka is already written some new material and it sounds as black metal.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

-Musical influences are quite well able to hear from our music, the bands we were listening during the whole nineties when we were still young lads. I’m still listening those same old ones all the time. It depends about my mood is it some primitive or a bit more melodic black metal. Of course I have also found newer bands I like a lot and during the years I have also open up my eyes or ears and found also find good stuff from some other genres. But I always return to real black metal in the end, that’s written in my DNA. I think it’s approximately the same with the other band members too.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

-Run like hell, in Hell!
