Zwart are a band from the Netherlands that plays an atmospheric and melancholic mixture of black, doom and dark metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Heem" which will be released on May 12th by Void Wanderer Productions.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of tracks.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding while the songs also mix in a great amount of dark metal influences. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the album a raw feeling and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with most of the tracks also being very long and epic in length. The music also has its atmospheric moments and as the album progresses a small amount of clean playing can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Dutch and cover ancestral worship themes.
In my opinion Zwart are a very great sounding atmospheric and melancholic mixture of black, dark and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Of Gods, Man And The Spirits Of The Dead" and "Ravenkloof". 8 out of 10.
Great album!!!
