Frosten are a duo from the United Kingdom that plays a very melodic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of his 202o album "With Sigils and Infernal Signs" which will be re-issued on May 27th by Purity Through Fire.
Clean playing starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the music also shows an influence of the mid 90's era Swedish style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a good amount of melody as well as one track also being all acoustic before closing the album with a heavier song.
Frosten plays a style of black metal that is very raw, aggressive and melodic in the mid 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover occultism and darkness themes.
In my opinion Frosten are a very great sounding melodic and old school black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ov The Black Flame" and "A Shadow In The Fog". 8 out of 10.
