La Sombra del Tejo are a solo project from Spain that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Unto de Muerto" which will b e released in June by Dawn of Murk.
A very distorted sound starts off the ep before going into a very fast, raw and melodic musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and the solos and leads also add in a great amount of melody.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave era. One of the tracks is also an instrumental along with the music also having its atmospheric moments and when guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very raw yet melodic style and growls can also be heard on the closing track.
La Sombra del Tejo plays a style of pagan black metal that is very raw and old school sounding in the 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Spanish and cover Witchery, Black Magick and Iberian Paganism themes.
In my opinion La Sombra del Tejo are a very great sounding pagan black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "De viga en viga" and "Unto de muerto". 8/5 out of 10.
