Negative Plane are a band from new York that plays an old school and occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "The Pact" which was released as a joint effort between Invictus Productions and The Ajna Offensive.
Melodic riffing starts off the album while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a great amount of blast beats and the music is heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's era.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams that also add in a touch of the first wave style while synths can also be heard in certain sections of the album. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the music also gets very progressive sounding along with some of the slower sections of the songs also adding in a touch of doom metal as well as some of the riffing also mixing in elements of thrash metal, one of the tracks is also a brief instrumental which also adds in a small amount of clean playing and stringed instruments before returning back to a heavier direction. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics are a concept album based upon the Faustian Pact.
In my opinion Negative Plane are a very great sounding progressive, old school and occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Work To Stand A Thousand years" "Even The Devil Goes To Church" and "And So it Came To Pass". 8 out of 10.
I started with Punk goes Pop, and realised how much more interesting Memphis May Fire’s version of Grenade by Bruno Mars was with intricate guitar work and screamed vocals. why do people like black metal
