Licht - und Schattensaiten are a solo project from Germany that plays an experimental form of black metal and this is a review of his 2022 album "Wetterleuchten" which will be released in June by Feral Age Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the album along with a brief use of stringed instruments which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Acoustic guitars can also be heard at times along with the music also having its experimental moments and during the faster sections of the songs a decent amount of blast beats are also utilized.
When tremolo picking is brought into the fast riffs they also give the album more of a raw feeling along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Nature sounds can also be heard briefly as well as all of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and as the album progresses a small amount of clear vocals can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover memorable experiences and weather events.
In my opinion Licht - und Schattensaiten are a very great sounding experimental black metal solos project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Von Blitzen erhellt" and "Prasselndes Nass". 8 out of 10.
