Vølus are a solo project from South Carolina that plays a dissonant mixture of war, black and death metal and this is a review of his 2022 album "Thrown To The Abyss" which will b e released in June b y Vargheist Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the synths when they are utilized also give the music the atmosphere of a horror movie soundtrack. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats, tremolo picking and war metal elements can be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling.
Vocals a re mostly bestial, cavernous and guttural death metal growls while black metal screams can also b e heard at times. Melodies and dissonant structures are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dissonant yet chaotic style along with the music also having its brutal moments. Some of the riffing also adds in some progressive touches. The production sounds very and heavy while the lyrics cover the Legacy of Kain, the writings of H.P Lovecraft, Occultism and Egyptian Esotericism themes.
In my opinion Vølus is a very great sounding dissonant mixture of war, black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Traverse The Arkonspire" "Antediluvian Watchers" and "Temporal Pathways". 8 out of 10.
