Flayed God are a duo from Athens, Georgia that plays a depressive mixture of blackgaze, post black and doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2022 album "The Light Has Gone Out Of My Life".
Rain and thunder sounds start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. Vocals are mostly high pitched yet depressive black metal screams and all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Elements of funeral doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs while the melodies also add in a small amount of post metal and shoegaze touches. Growls are also added on some of the tracks along with all of the music also sticking to a slower direction throughout the recording.
Flayed God plays a musical style that takes post and depressive black metal and mixes it with blackgaze and funeral doom metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover hatred, misanthropy and apathy themes.
In my opinion Flayed god are a very great sounding depressive mixture of blackgaze, post black and funeral doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I Grew Tired Of The Lies" "Exodus Inside Of Us" and "Another Execution". 8 out of 10.
