Bekmork are a duo from Norway that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays an old school style of Norwegian black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "The Path Nocturnal" which will be released on May 27th by Horns High Records.
Raw tremolo picking starts off the ep while the vocals are mostly angry yet angry sounding grim black metal screams. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the classic Nordic style while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats and at times the vocals also get very deep and demonic sounding.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Acoustic guitars can also can also be heard on a couple of tracks along with one of the songs also introducing keyboards onto the recording, clear vocals are also added on the closing song.
On this recording Bekmork remain true to the Norwegian style of black metal that they had established on their previous release. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover demonic ceremonies, Satanism and the epic saga of Haakan Haraldsson".
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Bekmork and if you are a fan of old school Norwegian black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Black Waltz" and "Empress of Charn". 8 out of 10.
