Torches Of Nero are a band from Brazil that plays an old school form of occult black metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 demo "Fallen Angel of Arcturo".
A very fast and raw sound starts off the demo along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while the music also brings in a great amount of mid 80's to 90's era Hellenic influences and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with a lot of the music also sounding like it could of easily been recorded and released 30 years ago as well as one track also adding in a brief use of keyboards and ritualistic spoken word parts which also return on the closing song before returning back to a heavier direction.
Torches Of Nero plays a style of occult black metal that is very heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's era of the classic Greek scene. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Occultism, Black Magick, Demonology, Necromancy and Left Hand Path themes.
In my opinion Torches Of Nero are a very great sounding old school occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Azazel (When Baphomet Went To Court)" and "Necromantic Rites". 8/5 out of 10.
