Sebastiano Mattiazzi is a solo artist from Brooklyn, New York that plays a very atmospheric and ritualistic form of black metal with elements of classical music and this is a review of his self released 2025 album "Ara".
A very powerful bass guitar sound starts off the album along with dark yet melodic riffing a few seconds later. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while elements of classical music are also mixed in with the heavier side of the music and the recording also has its ritualistic moments.
At times the album also goes into more of an atmospheric direction while the faster sections of the songs also add in a small amount of blast b eats. A lot of the music also captures more of an improvised atmosphere along with one track also adding in a brief use of clean playing and most of the recording sticks to a slower direction, when guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
Sebastiano Mattiazzi takes a very ritualistic and atmospheric form of black metal and mixes it with classical sound to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Hesiod's Theogony.
In my opinion Sebastiano Mattiazzi is a very great sounding atmospheric and ritualistic black metal solo project with elements of classical music and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Oldest of Demons, Ara" "147-160" and "207-225". 8 out of 10.
