Hersir are a band from Sweden that plays a very hateful, majestic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "Hateful Draugr From The Underground" which will be released in March by Darkness Shall Rise.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Keyboards are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the songs at times and the vocals range from deep to high pitched black metal screams.
A lot of the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's Scandinavian tradition while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the songs also adding in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with a couple of songs also adding in a small amount of spoken words as well as some angry shouts also being utilized at times, clean playing can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Nordic Spirituality of the shadow side.
In my opinion Hersir are a very great sounding hateful, majestic and old school black metal b and and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hateful Draugr From The Underground" "Walking the Way Of Giants" "Valgaldr" and "Divinations At The old Springs". 8 out of 10.
