Winterdemons/The Darkest Storm/Night Birds Records/2014 Cassette Re-Issue Review

  Winterdemons  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  a  very  dark  and  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2006  album  "The  Darkest  Storm"  which  was  re-issued  on  cassette  by  Night  Birds  Records  in  the  year  of  2014.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  black  metal sound  starts  off  the  cassette  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  a  few  seconds  later  grim  yet  high  pitched  screams  are  added into  the  music  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  after  awhile  clean  playing  can  be  heard in  certain  sections of  the  recording.

  You  can  hear  a  great  amount  of  Nordic  black  metal  influences  from  the  mid  90's  in  the  bands  musical  style  along  with  some  of  the  riffs  being  very  melodic  at  times  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  deep  death  metal  growls  while  the  rest  of  the  music  remains  black  metal  influenced  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  powerful  bass  guitar  sound  and  while  the  music  is  dominated  by  guitars,  bass,  and  drums  you  can  still  heat  a  natural  yet  dark  atmosphere  present  in  all  of  the  tracks  and  at  times  melodic guitar  leads  can  be  heard  on  occasion  and  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  incorporates  a  small  amount  of  keyboards.    

  Winterdemons  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  dark,  raw  and  old  school  sounding  with  a  decent  amount  of  atmosphere  and  unlike  most  bands  from  the  home  country  they  go  more  for  a  Nordic  style  of  this  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  evil,  coldness  and  satanic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  WInterdemons  are  a  very  great  sounding  dark  and  raw  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  cassette.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eternal  Sorrow" "Night  Of  Doom"  and  "Immortal".  8  out  of  10.

Caveman Cult/Rituals Of Savagery/Wohrt Records/2015 Cassette Review

  Caveman  Cult  are  a  band  from  Florida  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  war  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015 cassette  "Rituals  Of  Savagery"  which  will  be  released  on  February  9th  by  Wohrt  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  cassette  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  direction  along  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats,  high  pitched  screams  and  bestial  growls  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  songs  have  a  vintage  90's  feeling  to  them  at  times.

  The  slower  sections  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  influences  into  the  bands  musical  style  and  the  songs  all  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  heaviness  that  is  rarely  heard  these  days  as  well  as  showing  a  great  amount  of  Canadian  and  Australian  war  metal  influences  and  the  music  is  very  raw,  heavy  and  brutal  from  beginning  to  end  with  no  clean  or  soft  parts  ever  being  utilized  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Caveman  Cult  plays  a  style  of  war  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  while  also  having  a  great  amount  of  old  school  black  and  death  metal  elements  and  this  cassette  is  probably  the  heaviest  thing  released  in  months,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  savage,  barbaric  and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Caveman  Cult  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Savage  Rites"  and  "Sacred  Burial  Desecration".  8  out  of  10.

Nigredo/Facets of Death/Odium Records/2015 EP Review

  Nigredo  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  extreme  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  mini  album  "Facets  Of  Death"  which  was  released  by  Odium  Records.

  A  very  dark,  raw  and  fast  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  screams  and  the  music  also  incorporates  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  a  small  amount  of  angry  shouts  along  with  a  good  use  of  distorted  melodies  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

 Most  of  the  music  on  this  recording  shows  more  of  a  modern  yet  true  style  of  black  metal  that  still  evokes  a  very  dark  atmosphere  as  well  as  staying  away  from  any  soft  parts  to  create  more  of  a  negative  and  hateful  emotion  and  the  screams  can  also  be  very  high  pitched  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  starts  adding  in  more  old  school  style  black  metal  riffs.

  Nigredo  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  fast,  raw  and  extreme  while  also  having  a  very  hateful  and  misanthropic  atmosphere,  the  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent, negative  dark  and  misanthropic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nigredo  are  a  very  great  sounding  fast,  raw  and  extreme  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Visions  Form  The  Sepulcher"  and  "The  Wandering  Exile".  8  out  of  10.

Taran/Self Titled/Odium Records/2015 CD Review

  Taran  are  a  band from  Poland  that  plays  a  very  radical  and  extreme  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2015  album  which  was  released  by Odium  Records.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  medieval  war  samples  and  epic  keyboards  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  going  for  more  of  a  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  grim  screams  as  well  as  adding  in  some  chaotic  guitar  leads  that  also  become  a  huge  part  of  the  recording.

  At  time s the  music  bring s in  ritualistic  style  chanting  which  is  also  dome  in  more  of  a  grim  fashion  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

   As  the  album  progresses  some  of  the  tracks  bring  in  a  few  seconds  of  clean  singing  while  other  tracks  also  show  the  vocals  getting  more  grim  and  towards  the  end  the  leads  also  get  more  melodic  while  the  music  still  remains  true  to  an  extreme  style  of  black  metal  and  the  outro brings  in  an  atmospheric  feeling  before  closing  with  a  cover  of  Immortal's  "Unsilent  Storms  In  The  Northern  Abyss".

  Taran  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  brutal,  fast  and  extreme  while  still  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  this  is  probably  one  of  the  heaviest  albums  this  genre  has  produced  in  a  while,  the  production  sounds  very  raw,  powerful  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  evil,  hatred  and  anti  Christianity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Taran  are  a  very  great  sounding  fast  and  extreme  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Reign  of  Hellfire"  "Divine  Plague"  and  "The  Black  mark".  8  out  of  10.

Amargo/Kav/Wolfhound Productions/2015 Split CD Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Brazil's  Amargo  and  Germany's  Kav  which  was  released  by  Wolfhound  Productions in  2015  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Armago  a  raw  and  ambient  form  of  black  metal/noise.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  raw  and  noisy  style  of  black  metal  that  uses  grim  screams  and  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  also  adding  in  some  primal  melodies  and  when  the  music  slows  down  at  times  you  can  hear  hear  more  of  a  dark  ambiance  and  when  guitar  leads  are  used  for  a  few  seconds  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  chaotic  feeling,  the  following  track  shows  bells  being  added  into  the  music  for  a  few  seconds  and  they  also  give  the  recording  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  before  reverting  back  to  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  style  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  stringed  instruments  and  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  their  native  tongue  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Armago  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal/noise  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Condenados".

  Next  up  is  Kav  who  also  continues  the  raw  black/death  metal  sound  that  was  present  on  the  previous  2  recordings.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with    a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  as  well  as  having  more  of  a  powerful  beginning  than  the  2  previous  recordings  and  you  can  also  hear  elements  of  old  school  doom/death  metal  in  the  slower  sections  while  the  music  starts  having  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  once  the  music  speeds  up  and  adds  in  blast  beats  along  with  a  great  amount  of  bestial  growls  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  after  awhile  some  of  the  faster  riffs  have  an  early  war  metal  feeling  to  them,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kav  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  and  raw  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hecatomb"  and  "Below".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw  black  metal,  death  metal  and  noise.  8  out  of  10.

Ovin Taravlon/Kav/Wolfmond Productions/2015 Split CD Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Australia's  Ovin  Taravlon  and  Germany's  Kav  which  was  released  in  2014  by  Wolfmond  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Ovin  Taravlon  a duo  that  plays  a  very  hypnotic  and  experimental  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  distorted  black  metal  sound  along  with  some  grim  screams  and  the  music  is  also  very  slow  and  has  a  depressive  feeling  in  the  beginning  stages  and  after  a  few  minutes  blast  beats  start  to  get  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  tracks  while  the  following  songs  also  shows  the  music  speeding  up  at  times  and  adding  in  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  while  another track  brings in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  that  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  experimental  feeling,  the  production  on  this  recording  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  cosmos  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ovin  Taravlon  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  experimental  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Song  Of  No  Eascape"  and  "Cosmos".

  Next  up is  Kav  who  continues  his  ritualistic  raw  black/death  metal  sound  of  the  previous  recording.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark,  lo-fi  sound  along  with  some  drum  beats  a  few  seconds  later  which  leads  up  to  some  guttural  and  bestial  black/death  metal  growls  and  after  awhile  the  guitars  start  sounding  powerful  along  with  the  music  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  both  slow  and  fast  parts  while  the  faster  sections  display  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  style  as  well  as  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  last  track  is  a  cover  of  Crowbar's  "The  Lasting  Dose"  and  also  shows  melody  being  added  into  the  music,  the  production  sound s very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  ritualistic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kav  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Patient  Zero".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  to  all  fans  of  experimental  black  metal  and  raw  black/death.  8  out  of  10.

Kav/Self Titled/2015 EP Review

  Kav  are  a  1  man  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his self  released  and  self  titled  2015  ep.

  A  very  dark,  raw  and  lo-fi  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  blast  beats  a  few  seconds  later  before  adding  in  bestial  and  demonic  growls  and  the  music  also  bring s in  a  good  mixture  of  fast  and  slow  parts  along  with  the  faster  sections  having  an  early  90's  doom/death  metal  feeling  to  them.

  Blast  beats  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  faster  parts  bring  in  a  very  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  and  the  music  also  goes  back  to  the  early  days  of  U.S.B.M  when  the  genre  was  still  heavily  influenced  by  death  metal  while  you  can  also  hear  traces  of  the  early  bestial  black/death  and  war  metal  genres.

  Kav  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black/death  metal  that  shows  more  of  an evil  side  of  that  time  frame  as  well  as  ignoring  all  modern  trends,  the  production  has  a  very  dark  and  raw  sound  while  the  lyrics  cover  blasphemous  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Kav  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  musical  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  "II"  and  "V".  8  out  of  10.
