Mephorash/1557 - Rites Of Nullification/Odium Records/2015 CD Review

   Mephorash  are  a  band from  Sweden  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "1557 - Rites Of Nullification"  which  was  released  by  Odium  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  atmospheric  sounding  synth  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  drum  beats  before  adding  into   growls  and  heavier  guitars  that  also  adds  a  touch  of  blackened  death  metal  onto  the recording  and  after  awhile  melodies  and grim  black  metal  screams  make  their  presence  known  in  the  music.

 All  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  remain  true  to  a  melodic  style  of  black  metal  while  the  clean  playing gives  the songs  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  brings  in  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  and  also  utilizes  a  decent amount  of  blast  beats.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  some  tracks  also  use  a  small  amount  of  nature  sounds and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a   great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  of  the  riffs  have  more  of  an  avant  garde  and  technical  feeling.

  With  this  recording  Mephorash  change  their  sound  around  quite  a  bit  adding  in  more  death  metal  influences  as  well  as  displaying  a  great  amount  of  progress  as  musician's  while  the  music  still  has  it  fast  and  grim  moments,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Qabalah  and  Qlipitoth  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mephorash  and  if  you  area  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Riphyon  -  The  Tree  Of  Life  Putrescent"  and  "Cheidolun  -  Destroying  The  Blade  Of  Beriah".  8  out  of  10.

Animus Mortis/Empty/Invocations From The Innominute Void/Nebular Carcoma Records/2015 Split Cassette Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Chile's  Animus  Mortis  and  Spain's  Empty  called  "Invocations From The Innominute Void" which  was  released  by  Nebular  Carcoma  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Animus  Mortis  a  band  that has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  cold  and  desolate  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark,  melodic  and  raw  black metal  sound  along  with  some  grim  screams  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  music  also brings  in  a  great  amount  of  atmospheric  elements  and  the  songs  also  use  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Hermetic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Animus  Mortis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  cold,  desolate  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Hermetic  Axioma".

  Next  up  is  Empty  a  band  that  plays  a  depressive  form  of  black  metal.

  Their side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  before  slowing  down  and  adding  in  grim  screams  that  also  get  depressive  at  times  and  melodies  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording  and  both  of  their  songs  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  there is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  some  atmospheric  sounds  and  clean  playing, the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  emptiness,  despair,  solitude  and  negativity  themes.

  In my  opinion  Empty  are  a  very  great  sounding  depressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Most  Silent  Of  All  Hours".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  atmospheric and  depressive  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Dark Managarm/Victorious March/Iron, Blood &Death Corporation/2015 CD Re-Issue Review

  Dark  Managarm  are  a  band  from  France  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  fast,  raw  and satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this   is  a  review  of  their  2009  album  "Victorious March"  which  was  re-issued  in  2015  by  Iron,  Blood  &  Death  Corporation  along  with  a  couple of  tracks  that  where  not  on  the  original  version.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  yet  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  soem  high  pitched  screams  that  also  takes  the  music  into  a  faster  direction  that  also  incorporates  a  great  amount  of  brutal  blast  beats  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  very  dark  and  melodic  while  also  bringing  in  a  touch  of  the  90's  Swedish  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  touch  of  thrash  influences  and  the  last  track  on  the  original  album  before  the  bonus tracks  bring  in  the  sounds  of  war  before  making  a  return  back  to  a  heavier  musical  direction  and  the  2  bonus  traks  also  remain  true  to  a  very  fast  and  raw  style  of  black  metal.

  With  this  recording  Dark  Managarm  played  a  style  of  black  metal  that  was  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  along  with  some  melodies  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  influences  from  the  90's  Swedish  bands,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  War  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dark  Managarm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  fast  and  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fuck  the  Universe"  "Show  Us  the  Way  Towards  Khaos"  "Slave  Of  Religion"  and  "Possessed".  8  out  of  10.

Provocator/Sahrana/Holy Incest/Iron, Blood & Death Corp/2015 Split CD Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Slovenia's  Provocator  and  Bosnia's  Sahrana  caled  "Holy  Incest"  which  was  released  by  Iron,  Blood  &  Death  Corp  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Provocator  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  blasphemous  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  thrash  influenced  raw  black  metal  sound  along  with  some  deep  yet  grim  screams  that  also  get  high  pitched  at  times  and  the  music  mixes the  first  and  second  wave  styles  together  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  very  raw  and  chaotic  sounding  along  with  some  melodies.

  A  lot  of  the  faster  sections  utilize  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  riffs  can  also  be  very  melodic  at  times   and  when  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  briefly  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  and  one  of  their  tracks  is very  long  and  epic  in  length,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness,  Occultism,  Blasphemy  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Provocator  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  blasphemous  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mother  Of  The  Black  Moon"  and  "Holy  Incest".

  Next  up  is  Sahrana  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  satanic  form  of  bestial  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  the  sounds of goats  before  going  into  a  very fast  and  raw  style  of  black  metal  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast beats  and  when  vocals  are  used  they  are  very  bestial  sounding  while  also  throwing  in  high  pitched  screams  at  times  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Elements  of  war  metal   can  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style  while  the  leads  are  very  dark  and  melodic  along  with  the  songs  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  style  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  dark  sounding  melodies  at  times  along  with  a  slight  touch  of  thrash  and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  spoken  word  parts,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism.  Perversions  and  Blasphemous  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sahrana  are  a  very  great  sounding  blasphemous,  bestial  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,   you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Satanic  Wild  Hogs  (Eaters  Of  Christ's  Flesh)"  and  "Raped  Apostles  Of  Holy  Father  Kacavenda".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw,  blasphemous  and  satanic  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Ater Aeon/Ortvsvs/Fvrws Cinerem/Ater Lunae Templi/2015 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Brazil's  Ater  Aeon  and  Ortvsvs  called  "Fvrvvs  Cinerem   which  was  released  by  Ater  Lunae  Templi  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Ater  Aeon  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  very  ritualistic  form  of  black  ambient.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  drones  and  dark  soundscapes  and  you  can  also  hear  elements  of  ambient  and  tortured  voices  in  the  background  and  the  song  is  20  minutes  in  length   and  after  awhile  the  music  gets  more  ritualistic  and  diverse as  well  as  having  the  atmosphere  of  a  horror  movie soundtrack  and  the  reverb's  also  bring  in  elements  of  harsh  noise  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw.

  In  my  opinion  this is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ater  Aeon  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritualistic  black  ambient,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the split.

  Next  up  is  Ortvsvs  a  solo  project  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  while  his  other  material  is  more  raw  black  metal  he  goes  for  more  of  a  ritualistic  dark  ambient  sound  this  time  around.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  ritualistic  ambient  soundscape  along  with  some field recordings  in  the background  and  the  music  can  also  be  very  repetitive  and  primitive  at  times  and  the  music  is  all  instrumental  with  no  vocals  ever  being  utilized  along  with the  track  being  11  minutes  in  link  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ortvsvs  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  ambient,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black  metal,  ritualistic  music  and  dark  ambient.  8  out  of  10. 

Chiral/Nightsky/2015 Full Length Review

  Chiral  are  a  solo  project  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw,  melodic,  atmospheric,  and  progressive  form  of  post  black  metal  on  this  recording  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self released  2015  album  "Nightsky"  which  will  be  released  on  September  10th.

  Nature  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  that  use  both  full  chords  and  finger  picking  as w ell  as  adding  a  touch  of  neo  folk  to  the  recording  which  also  sets  up  the  mood  for  more  of  a  heavy  and  progressive  style  of  black  metal  that  also  uses  grim  sounding  screams  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length..

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  in  more  of  a  melodic  post  black  metal  direction  and  the  songs  are  also  perfectly  balanced  between  both  acoustic  and  heavy  parts  and  you  can  also  hear  harmonica's  briefly  and  there  is  also  a  small  amount  of  whispers  being  utilized  at  times  and  when  synths  are  brought  onto  the  recording  they  give  the  music  more  of  an  epic  and  atmospheric  sound.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  symphonic  and  classical  music  elements  and  some  of  the  slower  sections  display  influences  of  melodic  doom  metal  and  one track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Chiral  creates  a  very  diverse  recording  with  this  album  taking  the  raw,  melodic,  atmospheric  and  post  styles  of  black  metal  and  mixing  it  in  with  elements  of  progressive  and  folk  music  to  create  a  very  original  sound,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  introspection,  nature,  solitude,  pain,  death  and  love  themes.

  In  my  opinion this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Chiral  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  the  atmospheric,  post  and  cascadian  styles  of  black  metal,  you  should  enjoy  this  recording.   RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I,  Everblack  Fields"  and  "Beneath  the  Snow  And  Fllen  leaves".  8  out  of  10.

Thyrgrim/Dekaden/Talheim Records/2015 CD Review

  Thyrgrim  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  fast  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  Dekaden"  which  will  be  released  on  September  10th  by  Talheim  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  o0ff  the  album  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  aftwer awhile  melodic  guitar  leads  are  added  onto  the  recording.

  A lot  of  the  music   is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  black  metal  style  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  depressive  sounding  melodies  at  times  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  mixing  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  modern  and  old  school  influences  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  they  also  bring  in  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars  on  a  few  tracks  along  with  a  few  seconds  of  spoken word  parts  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  musical  direction  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Thyrgrim  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  fast  and  raw  in  the  beginning  while  the  other  have  of  the  recording  has  more  of  an  epic,  melodic and depressive  style  going  on  which  also  makes  the  album  very  diverse,  the  production  sound s very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  hate,  anger,  grief  and  depression  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Thyrgrim  are  a  very  great  sounding  fast,  raw,  melodic and  depressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Die  Holle  Ist  Heir"  "Hass"  "Der  Weg"  and  "Wenn  Es  Schneit".  8  out  of  10.
