Belliciste are a solo project that is originally based in New Zealand formed in Scotland and know is re-located to Slovakia and this is a review of their 2014 album "Sceadugenga" which was released by Todestrieb Records.
A very fast, raw and old school black metal sound starts off the album along with some powerful bass lines and blast beats and a few seconds later high pitched screams are added into the music and the songs also bring in a great amount of melodic guitar leads and the riffs also use a decent amount of melody.
Elements of thrash can be heard in some of the guitar riffing and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and there are also a few tracks that are very long and epic in length and while you can still hear a lot of second wave influences in the music the songs still have a modern vibe to them without copying any of the current trends and while the album sticks to mostly a heavy style the last song closes with a small amount of atmospheric synths.
Belliciste plays a style of black metal that is very fast, raw and old school while also having a good sense of melody and also having an identity of its own, the production sounds very dark, raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Belliciste a very great sounding fast and raw black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Throne Of Filth" "Lamentations Of A Miserable Bastard" and "Winterplaque". 8 out of 10.
