Grieving Mirth are an international band with members from Mexico, United States and England that plays an atmospheric form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2015 ep "Calamitosvs Omine" which was released by Loud Rage Music.
Soft and clean playing which also returns on a later track as well starts off the ep before going into a very fast and raw black metal direction that uses a great amount of blast beats and grim yet high pitched screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and there are also times when the vocals have a melodic tone to them.
You can hear a great amount of melody in the guitar riffing which also gives the music more of a post black metal vibe along with some atmospheric sounds in the background and the music also mixes influences from both the second wave and modern era together in their musical style and as the ep progresses synths start having a more powerful sounding presence on the recording and a later track also brings in clean singing and spoken word parts which are also used on the last track as well while a later song brings in the more depressive side of the black metal genre.
Grieving Mirth plays a style of post black metal that is very atmospheric and melodic while also having the rawness which you would hear from second wave bands, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Latin and cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Grieving Mirth are a very great sounding atmospheric, post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Indelectatvs" and "Mille Facce". 8 out of 10.
