Scolopendra Cingulata are a band from Kazakhstan that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 ep "Kuoltuu Kaikin Kohetah" which was released as a joint effort between Narcoleptica Productions and More Hate Productions.
A very dark and melodic sound starts off the ep along with some record player static before going into more of a raw style of black metal that uses a great amount of tremolo picking while the faster sections of the songs use a great amount of blast beats and the vocals also use a great amount of high pitched screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in more of a melodic fashion and the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave style of the genre and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and keyboards are also added into some parts of the songs and they also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and they also bring in a brief use of clean playing on a couple of tracks while another song has a small amount of war samples,
On this recording Scolopendra Cingulata remain true to their raw black metal roots while also getting more melodic, atmospheric, adding in keyboards and also showing a great amount of progress and skill as musicians, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in their native tongue and cover history, war and literature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Scolopendra Cingulata and if you are a fan of raw and old school black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Would Die - All Goodwill" and "Jackals". 8 out of 10.
