Verlassen are a solo project from Germany that has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric and depressive form of ambient black metal and this is a review of his self released 2016 album "Einstieg In Dunkle Gedanken".
Dark ambient style synths start off the album and they also use a variety of many different sounding keys and after the intro the music goes into a very fast and raw style of black metal that uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats along with some grim screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when guitar solos and leads are added into the music they are done in more of a dark and melodic fashion and some songs also bring in a small amount of clean playing along with some atmospheric elements and ambient sounds also return on later tracks and the music starts bringing in more of a depressive style and a couple of songs are instrumental while there is still a great amount of vocal tracks.
Verlassen creates a black metal album that is very depressive and atmospheric sounding along with a great amount of ambient elements while the music still has its raw moments, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Verlassen and if you are a fan of ambient, depressive and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Kar Denke" "Ritual" and "Finsteres Verlaggen". 8 out of 10.
