Rimfrost are a band from Sweden that plays a raw and technical style of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2016 album which will be released on March 25th by Non Serviam Records.
A very heavy thrash influenced sound starts off the album along with some grim black metal screams a few seconds later and all of the musical instruments sound very powerful and when the music speeds up it brings in more of a raw side of the genre along with a great amount of blast beats and a few of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Clean playing and spoken word parts can be heard in certain sections of the recording and the music also brings in atmospheric synths at times along with some dark ambient elements while some of the fast riffs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and you can also hear a lot of melody in the songs.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also get very technical at times and there is also a brief use of back up gang shouts and the songs also mix in a great amount of both Norwegian and Swedish influences from the more current material of the bands from those areas and when guitar leads are utilized they bring in even more of a melodic style to the bands musical style and some songs also bring in a touch of death metal and there is also a brief use of clean singing.
Rimfrost creates a style of black metal that is very epic, atmospheric and melodic while also having its raw and technical moments, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover winter, grimness and darkness themes.
In my opinion Rimfrost are a very great sounding atmospheric, melodic and technical black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "As The Silver Curtain Closes" "Dark Prophecies" and "Witches Hammer". 8 out of 10.
