Woe Is The Accursed Earth are an international duo with one member from Sweden and another member from the U.S residing in Mississippi and they play a mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "The Awakening" which was released by Salute Records.
A very and atmospheric sound along with melodic guitar leads start off the album along with some grim black metal screams a few seconds later and clean singing can also be heard at times and the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Clean playing can be heard in certain sections of the recording and elements of doom metal can be heard quite a bit throughout the album and the music sticks mostly to a slow or mid paced musical direction while also speeding up briefly and bringing in tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs more of a raw black metal feeling when they are utilized and the keyboards which are mostly in the background have an atmospheric 90's feeling to them while they get more powerful as the album progresses and there is also a brief use of thunder and rain samples and later tracks also bring in a small amount of spoken word parts.
Woe Is The Accursed Earth plays a musical style that takes 90's black metal and mixes it with old school style keyboards and elements of doom metal to create a style of their own, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover mystery, darkness, sadness, horror, injustice and self destruction themes.
In my opinion Woe is the Accursed Earth are a very great sounding mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Awakening" "like thick Sand And Sucked into the Soil" "Visions Of Utopian Seed" and "A Warriors Tale". 8 out of 10.
