Avast are a band from Norway that plays post black metal and this is a review of their self released and self titled 2016 ep.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep bringing in more of a post metal feleing before speeding up and adding in tremolo picking, blast beats and high pitched screams which gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling while the melodic leads have more of an atmospheric cascadian style to them.
Both of the tracks are very long and epic in length and also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the riffs also use melodies at times while clean playing is also added into certain sections of the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and you can also hear a touch of shoegaze in the bands musical style.
Avast plays a style of post black metal that is very atmospheric, modern and melodic and sounds nothing like a band you would expect from their country and the music has more of an American feeling, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover nature and real life themes.
In my opinion Avast are a very great sounding post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Declare". 8 out of 10.
