Mordhell are a band from Poland that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album 'Graveyard Fuck" which will be released in June by Pagan Records.
A very heavy and punk influenced starts off the album along with some grim sounding black metal screams a few seconds later. The music also mixes in influences from both the first and second wave era's of the genre and all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while the tracks also mixes in a decent amount of black'n'roll elements. When the music speeds up blast beats can also be heard along with the guitar leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic old school style when they are utilized.
The songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the tremolo picking vicing the recording more of a raw feeling when it is utilized and as the album progresses a brief use of clean playing can also be heard, the closing track also adds in more of a ritualistic atmosphere. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism and Sexually Sadistic themes.
In my opinion Mordhell are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mandatory Killing" "Plastic Scum" "Headless Dreams" and "Cursed To Walk The Earth". 8 out of 10.
