Saltmarsh are a solo project from New Jersey that plays a very atmospheric and ambient form of post black metal and this is a review of his self titled 2024 ep which will b e released in July by Fiadh Productions.
Ambient style keyboards start off the ep and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Clean playing is also added on some of the tracks while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody as well as the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and clean singing can also be heard at times.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic post metal style while a couple of the tracks are also instrumentals. The keyboards also add in a variety of many different sounding keys along with some songs also adding in some saxophones, growls and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and all of the music also sticks to a slower direction as well as all of the drum beats also being programmed.
Saltmarsh plays a musical style that takes a very slow and atmospheric form of post black metal and mixes it with ambient to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the old ways of baymen life.
In my opinion Saltmarsh is a very great sounding ambient and atmospheric post black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fog" and "Marsh". 8 out of 10.
