Winterfront are a band from Croatia that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "XII Chants For The Underworld" which was released b y Werwolf Promotion.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the songs also add in a great amount of old school influences. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and the whole album also s ticks to a heavier direction.
Winterfront plays a style of pagan black metal that is very raw, melodic and old school sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover war, paganism and the eternal inner struggle.
In my opinion Winterfront are a very great sounding pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cleansing" "Dogmatic Futility" "Rite Of Passage" and "Bound In Decay". 8 out of 10.
