Nekrophasm/Self Titled/Apocalyptic Records/2006 Demo Review

  Nekrophasm  are  a  duo  from  Cleveland,  Ohio  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2006  demo  which  was  released  by  Apocalyptic  Records.

  A  very  raw  and  old  school  sound  starts  off  the demo  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  style  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  Dark sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  one  of  the  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  both  of  the  songs  sticking  to  a  very  heavy  musical  direction  and  some  of  the  fast  riffs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking.

  Nekrophasm  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  old  school  in  the  90's  and  tradition,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  evil  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nekrophasm  ate  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "True  Darkness  Remains".  8  out  of  10.

Black Trinity/Bleed For Him/Apocalyptic Records/2018 CD Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Cleveland,  Ohio's  Black  Trinity  which  continues  the  old  school  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Bleed  For  Him"  which  was  released  by  Apocalyptic  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  musical  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  elements  as  well  as  the  riffing  also  getting  very  melodic  at  times.

  All of  the  music  was  released  in  2008  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  the  album  progresses  growls  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of t he  recording  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Black  Trinity  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  raw  and  melodic  style  of black  metal  while  also  adding  in  touches  of  death,  thrash  metal  and  some  first  wave  influences,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Luciferian,  Anti  Religion,  Evil,  Death  and  War  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Blank  Trinity  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Black  Knight's  Legion"  "Soldiers  Of  Hate"  "The  Christ  Myth"  and  "Skull  Throne".  8  out  of  10.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  utilizing  melody  at  times.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  music  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences,  elements  of  thrash  are  also  added into  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  and  the  music  also  always  remains  heavy.

Eternal Fortress/Enchanted Woods Of Sorrow/Pacific Threnodies/2018 Demo Review

  Eternal  Fortress  are  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric,  epic  and  dungeon  synth  orientated  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  demo  "Enchanted  Woods  Of  Sorrow"  which  was  released  by  Pacific  Threnodies.

  Epic  sounding  synths  start  off  the  demo  and  also  bring  in  elements  of  dungeon  synth  while  also  mixing  in  some  symphonic  touches  at  times  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  mostly  instrumentals  as  well  as  some  rain  and  thunder  sounds  also  being  used  briefly  and  one  of  the  songs  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  music  showing  a  lot  of  influence  from  Summoning  as  we;;  as  the  riffs  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  heaviness  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  brought  into  the  music  briefly.

  Eternal  Fortress  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  dungeon  synth  and  atmospheric  epic  black  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sound s very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  fantasy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Eternal  Fortress  are  a  very  great  sounding  epic,  and  atmospheric  dungeon  synth  orientated  black  metal solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Realm  Of Rain".  8  out  of  10.

An Autumn For Crippled Children/The Light Of September/Consouling Sounds/2018 CD Review

  An  Autumn  For  Crippled  Children  are  a  band  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  shoegaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "The  Light  Of  September"  which  was  released  by  Consouling  Sounds.

  Powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  and  shoegaze  elements  start  off  the  album  along  with  some    synths  that  also  add  in  touches  of  new  wave  and  synth  pop  also  being  utilized  at  times  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Elements  of  post  rock  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  clean  playing  while  one  of  the  tracks  is  an instrumental  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  a small  amount  of  blast  beats  being  utilized  briefly  when  the  music  speeds  up  briefly  and  the  riffs  also  utilize  a  lot  of  melody.

  On  this  recording  An  Autumn  For  Crippled  Children  remain  true  to  the  shoegaze  and  post  black  metal  mixture  of  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression,  anger,  anguish,  love  and  hate  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  An  Autumn For  Crippled  Children  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  shoegaze  and  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Light  Of  September"  "Lovelorn"  "A  New  Day  Has  Come"  and  "The  Golden  years".  8  out  of  10.

Goryzc/Piach/Pagan Records/2018 CD Review

  Goryzc  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  very  progressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Piach"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Pagan  Records.

  Powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  and  drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  while  clean  guitar  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as w ell  as  some  of  the  tracks  being  long  and  epic  in  length  and  after  awhile  the  riffs  start  going  into  a  heavier  direction.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very progressive  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  a  couple  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  riffing  also  adding  in  some avant  garde  and  dissonant  structures  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Goryzc  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  progressive,  avant  garde  and  dissonant  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  the  earth  in  the  physical  sense  and  its  connection  with  society,  life  and  death.

  In  my  opinion  Goryzc  are  a  very  great  sounding  progressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Czarna  ciecz"  and  "Goryzc".  8  out  of  10.

  United  Kingdom's  Anaal  Nathrakh  have  returned  with  a  new  album  which  continues  their  mixture  of  black  metal,  industrial  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "A  New  Kind  Of  Horror"  which  will  be  released  on  September  28th  by  Metal  blade  Records.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  used  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  chaotic  yet  melodic  style  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  grindcore  elements  can  be  heard.

  High  pitched  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  clean  vocals  also  being  utilized  at  times  while  the  songs  also  bring  in a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  music  also  bringing  in  a  good  amount  of  symphonic  and  industrial  elements,  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  as  the  album  progresses  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  On  this  recording  Anaal  Nathrakh  adds  more  symphonic  and  death  metal  elements  to  their  mixture  of  black  metal,  industrial  and  grindcore,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  horrors  of  the  first  world  war,  contemporary  politics  and  the  letters  of  D.H  Lawrence. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Anaal  Nathrakh  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Obscene  As  Cancer"  "New  Bethlehem/Mass  Death  Furies"  "Mother  Of  Satan"  and  "Are  We  Fit  For  Glory  Yet?(The  War  To  End  Nothing)".  8  out  of  10.
