This is a review of a split ep between Oregon's Gromkult and Morte Sinata called "Grim Wizard Over A Smoky Mountain" which was released by Glossalia Records in 2012 and we will start of the review with Gromkult a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw and primitive form of black metal.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sound with heavy riffing that dominates throughout the recording.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very old school, raw and primitive sounding with some melody being utilized at times and there are no guitar solos and leads present on this recording.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams with some lower screams being used at times, while the lyrics dark and hateful themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on their side of the recording.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gromkult and if you are a fan of raw and primitive black metal, you should check out their side of the recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Petals Of Hate". RECOMMENDED.
Next up is Morte Sinata a band that plays a very atmospheric, raw and primitive form of black metal.
Drums range from slow to mid paced playing with no fast drumming or blast beats being present on their side of the recording, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced black metal riffs that are very ambient, raw and primitive sounding, while the lead guitars are very melodic, atmospheric and depressive sounding black metal guitar leads.
Vocals are all lower black metal screams, while the lyrics cover sorcery and evil, as for the production it has a very dark, lo-fi raw and primitive sound to it which fits the dark atmosphere of the music.
In my opinion Morte Sinata are a very great sounding atmospheric, raw and primitive sounding black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Shining Moon Entrances My Soul".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric, raw and primitive black metal. RECOMMENDED BUY.
