Deathcult not to be confused with the bands from Norway and California with the same name are a band from Chicago, Illinois that plays a mixture of dark old school black metal, death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2013 cassette "The Test Of Time" which was released by Calgari Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with not much in the way of blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffs that combine dark and old school black metal with death and thrash metal together to create a sound of their own along with some melody being thrown into the riffing at times, while the lead guitars are very dark sounding black/death metal guitar solos and leads that utilize some melody at times.
Vocals are all grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams that utilize some thrash elements, while the lyrics cover dark, hateful and anti christian themes, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Deathcult are a very great sounding hybrid of dark old school black metal, death and thrash and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mutant Generation" "Hail The Antichrist" and "Inner Beast". RECOMMENDED BUY.
