Wrathful Plague are a band from Illinois that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Thee Within The Shadows" which was released by Metallic Media.
Classical guitars and melodic chants which also make a return on some of the tracks start off the album and a few seconds alter grim black metal vocals start becoming a huge part of the recording and after the intro the music starts adding in heavy and melodic guitar riffs and when the music speeds up it adds in blast beats along with a more raw black metal feeling.
Clean playing can be heard in certain sections of the recording and when solos and leads are utilized they are very dark and melodic and throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the synths at times gives the music more of an ambient feeling along with a few instrumentals and some of the tracks also bring in a decent amount of spoken word parts
Wrathful Plague plays a style of black metal that is very grim, raw and atmospheric sounding, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover frost, winter, paganism and occultism themes.
In my opinion Wrathful Plague are a very great sounding raw and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Within The Shadows" "Thurisaz" and "Death's Embrace". 8 out of 10.
