Ashbringer are a solo project from Minnesota that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Vacant" which was released by Avantgarde Music.
Ambient sounds start off the album along with some clean singing which also appears on other songs as well and acoustic guitars a few seconds later while a few seconds later melodic post black metal guitar leads a re added onto the recording along with some grim yet high pitched screams and after the intro the bass guitars start having more of a powerful sound to them.
A good portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in elements of folk music at times and the music can get very atmospheric when synths are utilized and you can hear a lot of cascadian black metal elements throughout the recording and the faster sections of the songs have a very raw feeling to them and also bring in a small amount of blast beats and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and there is also an ambient instrumental before the album closes with another heavy track.
Ashbringer plays a style of black metal t hat is very modern, melodic, raw and atmospheric sounding and also seems to be very heavily influenced by the cascadian style and there is also a touch of ambient, folk and progressive in the songs, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Ashbringer are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lucid" and "better". 8 out of 10.
