Mortichnia are a band from Ireland that plays a modern form of black metal with a touch of doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Heir To Scoria And Ash" which will be released on April 22nd by Apocalyptic Witchcraft.
Distorted sounds start off the album before going into a very fast and raw black metal with a great amount of blast beats and a few seconds later high pitched screams and the music can also be very complex and progressive at times and the fast riffs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are very melodic sounding while also demonstrating a great amount of talent and skill and the music can be very atmospheric at times and you can also hear a lot of depressive black metal elements in some parts of the songs.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the music is more rooted in the modern style of black metal and when growls are utilized they gave the music a touch of death metal while the slower riffs are also very heavily influenced by doom metal and there is also a brief instrumental that also takes the music into more of an experimental direction.
Mortichna plays a style of black metal that is very modern, complex and progressive while also having a very depressive style, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and metaphysical themes.
In my opinion Mortichnia are a very great sounding modern and progressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Searing Impulse" and "A Furious Withering:. 8 out of 10.
