Vargafrost are a band from New Zealand that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Honour, Blood, Spirit And Love" which will be released on February 20th by Naturmacht Productions.
Nature sounds start off the album along with some heavier guitar riffs a few seconds later that are done in more of a black metal style as well as some drums also kicking in which also sets up the mood for grim screams to make their presence known on the recording and a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length
A lot of the music is rooted in the second wave 90's style and when guitar solos and leads are added into the music they are done in more of melodic style and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard and throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and as the album progresses acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and one of the later tracks also brings in a brief bass guitar lead.
Vargafrost plays a style of pagan/black metal that is very raw and mostly rooted in the mid 90's style of the genre while also bringing back some aggression that is rarely heard in this style, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Germanic Paganism.
In my opinion Vargafrost are a very great sounding raw pagan/black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Great Cavern Stones" "The Light Of baldr" "Ask And Embla" and "The Return". 8 out of 10.
