Aenaon are a band from Greece that plays a very experimental and progressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Hyposophy" which will be released in December by Code666.
Clean guitar playing starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw black metal direction that also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking while the vocals are mostly grim screams along with some clean singing and saxophones are also utilized at times and all of the musical instruments sound very powerful.
At times the riffs can be very melodic and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and they also add acoustic guitars into certain sections of the recording and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
A lot of the vocals bring in a great amount of anger and hate and some parts of the songs bring in a small amount of spoken word parts and the songs also mix in growls and progressive structures and one song also brings in a small amount of female vocals while some tracks also bring in elements of ethnic music and the last track brings in psychedelic style keyboards.
Aenaon plays a style of black metal and progressive and also stands out with saxophones being used as one of the main instruments which also makes the songs sound a lot more original, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover personal weaknesses, paranoia, death, and denial of ego and body themes.
In my opinion Aenaon are a very great sounding experimental and progressive black metal band and if you are looking for something very original you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fire Walk With Me" "Tunnel" and "Phronesis-Psychomagic". 8 out of 10.
