Deathkin are a band from Finland that plays a very raw form of Finnish black metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 album "Kohti Kotiani Kaaosta" which will be released ob Halloween.
A very dark sounding synth starts off the album giving the music an evil atmosphere before going into a very fast and raw black metal direction that also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats and the vocals are mostly grim and high pitched screams and the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave style.
Melodies can also be heard in the music at times and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and w hen solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic fashion and clean singing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them
Some of the tracks a re very long and epic in length and some of the riffs also bring in elements of death metal and sound effects can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses the music starts incorporating some more modern black metal elments while also bringing in a brief use of acoustic guitars.
Deathkin plays a musical style that takes a traditional form of Finish style black metal and mixes it in with a more modern sound to take the genre to another level, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover chaos, immortality, and the power of death.
In my opinion Deathkin are a very great sounding Finnish black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Varttuvista Verten Varjoista" and "Kaarmeenkuulija". 8 out of 10.
