Violet Cold are a band from Azerbaijan that plays an experimental form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Magic Night" which will be released on cassette in December by Tridroid Records.
Ethnic musical instruments and ambient style synths start off the album and after a couple of minutes melodic post metal influences guitar leads are added onto the recording and a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
During the faster sections of the songs the riffs use a great amount of tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling while still adding a great amount of melody in the riffing and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great amount of shoegaze elements and there is also a brief use of violins and all of the songs are instrumental and as the album progresses the music gets more experimental and adds in touches of jazzcore, electronic music, witch house and neo-classical and most of the tracks sound different from each other and some of the slower riffs also mix in the heaviness of sludge.
Violet Cold plays an instrumental musical style that is mostly rooted in an atmospheric style of post black metal while also experimenting with a variety of many different musical genres to create something very original and the production also sounds very professional.
In my opinion Violet Cold are a very great sounding instrumental and experimental, post black metal band and if you are looking for something very original, you should check out this cassette. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Magic Night" "Sea" and "Last Night On Earth". 8 out of 10.
