Uburen are a band from Norway that has been featured before in this zine and plays an epic form of viking/black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Fra Doden Fodes Liv" which will be released on Halloween by Via Nocturna.
Viking ships and nature sounds start off the album before going into a more heavy and melodic musical direction and the faster sections of the songs also use a great amount of blast beats and the vocals are mostly high pitched screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and when the riffs use tremolo picking it also gives the songs more of a raw black metal feeling and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the music is very heavily rooted in the Norwegian style of viking/black metal and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and all of the songs stick to a heavy musical direction.
Uburen plays a style of viking/black metal that is more raw, heavy and guitar driven than most bands of this genre, the production sounds very raw yet powerful at the same time while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Norwegian and English and cover Norse Mythology, Paganism and Viking themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Uburen and if you are a fan of viking/black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Red Dawn" "Draugen" "Nidingstav" and "Our Land On Fire". 8 out of 10.
