Helrunar are a band from Germany that plays a very dark form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Vanitas Vanitatvm" which will be released in September by Prophecy Productions.
Stringed instruments starts off the album before going into more of a heavier musical direction while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style along with the faster sections of the songs also using a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which gives the songs a more raw feeling.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with a great portion of the songs being very long and epic in length as well as the tracks also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Classical guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the riffs also bring in a great amount of dark sounding melodies along with the vocals also having their deep and demonic moments, spoken word parts can also be heard at times and as the album progresses they also bring in an instrumental and a later song also brings in clean guitars and stringed instruments also return towards the end.
Helrunar plays a style of black metal that is very diverse and aggressive sounding, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover 4.000 of human culture and the historical events of those eras.
In my opinion Helrunar are a very great sounding modern and diverse black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Saturnus" "Nachzeher" and "Necropolis". 8/5 out of 10.
