Ancient Burial are a band from Portugal that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Beyond The Watchtowers" which will be released in May by Signal Rex.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction. At times the music also captures a lo-fi atmosphere along with the vocals also adding in a suicidal approach to black metal screams and w hen the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the music more of a raw feeling while the songs are also very heavily rooted in the 90's era. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some of the songs also being very long and epic in length as well as the music also bringing in a very chaotic style and avoiding the use of any melody.
Ancient Burial plays a style of black metal that is very raw and lo-fi in the 90's old school tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Left Hand Path, Darkness, Evil and Death themes.
In my opinion Ancient Burial are a very great sounding raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wolferian Woods Of Belial" "Ritualistic Trinity of Evil" and "Hunger For Desecration". 8/5 out of 10.
