1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
D: We are Rottendom, a new Black Metal band from St. Louis, we just released our debut album and we're gearing up to head out live and rip it up.
2.Recently you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?
D: For this record I wanted it totally different from my other bands and the band Frank and I started 13 years back. Really punchy brutal drums, slightly buzzsaw crunchy guitars, just a total ass kicking onslaught of black metal. Wall of sound. We both wanted it to be kind of raw but still with clear and heavy, good production but without editing our performances. You can feel the songs move almost in a live rock N roll way.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?
D: Total chaos, war and pandemonium, evil and darkness within humanity.
4.You have also mentioned an interest in disaster, horror and science fiction cinema, what films in these genres have had an impact on the lyrics and musical style that you play?
D: None have had any impact on the lyrics directly but I see glimpses of settings from movies etc when writing certain riffs or lyrics. Terminator, mad max, war of the world's kind of stuff.
5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Rottendom'?
F: Rottendom at its core is an homage to a 1349 song. We spent several months conjuring different band names for this project, but in the end, Rottendom encapsulated so much of what we wanted to put forth in this band.
6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artowrk that is presented on the ep cover?
F: The album art represents this ever-present hellish warscape with no discernible sides. Timeless wars that are being guided by the whispers of mystics.
7.Currentyl there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?
D: That's the plan. Just Frank and I. This band won't be doing any line up changes. It's the two of us or it's nothing at all. But, we do have some guys coming in and rehearsing to round out the live line up and fill out the sound for shows.
8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
D: Absolutely. We're looking for label and management help right now. This isn't our first rodeo. We're ready to go out and put in the work and take this as far as possible. So if any labels or management see this, let's talk!
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
D: All positive so far. We want to reach as many people out there as possible though and get it in everyone's ears.
10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
D: Right now doing EP’s is the best way for us to release music. Instead of releasing music every 2-3 years we can put something out every year. It's also cool to be able to focus on 4, 5, 6, songs at a time and really hone in on what the music demands, both from our performances and from a production standpoint. That said, if we got a good, cool label, or some solid management with solid tours coming in, then that changes the game for the necessity of a full length.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?
D: I'm all over the place. The classics are always in rotation but there's been a ton of killer new albums I've been digging this year.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
D: Keep your eyes out, we're looking to take this thing out as soon as we can. We've also already got some solid ideas for a release next year.
