Hyver are a solo project from France that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording goes for an epic mixture of black metal and dungeon synth and this is a review of his 2025 album "Shaâtaunoâr" which will be released on November 25th by Antiq.
Synths start off the album and also brings in elements of dungeon synths while also adding in a variety of different sounding synths and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Spoken words can also be heard at times and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
At times the music also gets very medieval sounding while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the harsh vocals being mostly grim sounding black emtal screams and blast beats are added into the faster sections of the songs.
Throughout the album you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with each song also having an dungeon synth interlude in between them, when tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the recording more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are a concept album based upon fantasy themes which have a role playing approach to them.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Hyver and if you are a fan of epic black metal and dungeon synth, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shaataunoar" "Hunting Room" "Attic - Laboratory" and "Cellars". 8/5 out of 10.
