Negura Bunget are a band from Romania that plays a very dark, raw and primitive form of pagan/black metal with folk music elements and this is a review of their 2010 album "Maiestrit" which was released as a joint effort between Lupus Lounge and Prophecy and is also a recording of an earlier album "Maiastru Sfetnic".
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown into the music, while the keyboards bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the music along with some elements from folk music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast pagan/black metal riffs that are very dark, raw and primitive sounding with somewhat of a doom metal feeling to the riffing as well as some folk music elements and melody being thrown in at times, while the lead guitars are very melodic, raw and primitive sounding black metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking and full chords to bring in elements of folk music to the recording along with a brief use of slide guitar being utilized on the last song.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams with some deep growls and clean singing being thrown in at times, while the lyrics are written in their native tongue and cover Romanian Paganism and Folklore, as for the production it has a very heavy, strong and powerful sound which does not take away from the raw and primitive nature of the music with the songs being very long and epic in length while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Negura Bunget are a very great sounding atmospheric, dark, raw and primitive pagan/black metal band and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In-Zvicnerea Apusului" and "Bruiestru". RECOMMENDED BUY.
