Waylander are a band from Ireland that plays Celtic Pagan Black Metal with folk music elements and this is a review of their 2012 album "Kindred Spirits" which was released by Listenable Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown into the music at times, while the flutes give the music a folk/medieval feeling, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast pagan/black metal riffs that utilize some dark sounding melodies, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos and leads that utilize some traditional metal elements, as for acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use full chords and finger picking to give the recording a folk music sound.
Vocals are mostly high pitched pagan/black metal screams mixed in with some shouting back up's as well as a brief use of spoken word parts and clean singing, while the lyrics Celtic Paganism and Folklore, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, and heavy sound with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Waylander are a very great sounding Celtic/pagan black metal band with a folk music edge and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Echoes of The Sidhe" "Twin Fires Of Beltine" "Quest For Immortality" and "Kindred Spirits". RECOMMENDED BUY.
