Darken where a band from Sheridan, Wyoming that played a very atmospheric and technical form of black metal with a death metal edge and this is a review of their self titled 1998 ep which was released by Defiled Records.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, while the keyboards bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced technical black metal riffs that utilize a great amount of melody and death metal influences, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos and leads that bring a traditional metal feeling to the music.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams mixed in with some deep death metal growls, while the lyrics cover dark themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it with the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Darken where a very great sounding atmospheric and technical black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Sorrows Season". RECOMMENDED BUY.
