Suffering where a band from Norway that played a very dark and mid paced form of black metal with a doom metal edge and this is a review of their 1994 album "Sowing The Seeds Of Suffering" which was released by Artic Serenades.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced black metal riffs that are very dark, raw and primitive sounding with some melodies, doom and death metal influences and progressive parts being thrown into the riffing, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding black metal guitar solos and leads that also utilize some elements of early 90's technical death metal, as for the acoustic guitars they are only utilized on the last song and they use finger picking and full chords to enhance the darkness that is coming out of the music.
Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams, while the lyrics cover dark, occult and anti christian themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it with the songs being long and epic in length while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Suffering where a very great and underrated sounding dark, mid paced black metal band with a doom metal edge and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Suffering Soul" and "The Age Of Darkness". RECOMMENDED BUY.
