This is a review of a split ep between Maine's Auspicium and Oregon's Earthenwomb, both bands that have appeared in this zine with the ep being released in 2012 by Glossolalia Records and we will start off the review with Auspicium with their musical style this time around being black metal mixed with post rock.
Drum programming ranges from slow to mid paced beats that are very one dimensional sounding, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars, as for the synths they bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to their side of the recording.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine atmospheric black metal, post and gothic rock together to create a sound of their own along with a great amount of melody being thrown into the riffing, while the lead guitars are very dark and melodic sounding post/gothic rock guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are all clean singing with none of the black metal screams from their previous efforts, while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound with the 2 songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another recording from Auspicium and if you are a fan of post black metal and gothic rock, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Disintegration" which is a Cure cover. RECOMMENDED.
Next up is Earthenwomb with a musical style this time around combining raw black metal, harsh noise, experimental and shoegaze together.
Sound effects bring in elements of harsh noise, primitive black metal, experimental and shoegaze to create a sound of their own along with some drum programming and synths with no other musical instruments being present on their side of the recording.
Vocals range from high pitched black metal screams to deep demonic growls, while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, as for the production it has a very harsh, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Earthenwomb and if you are a fan of black metal mixed with harsh noise and shoegaze, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Sometimes" which is a My Bloody Valentine cover. RECOMMENDED.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and if you are a fan of black metal, harsh noise and post rock, you should add this ep to your collection. RECOMMENDED BUY.
