This is a review of another recording from Occulus which continues their grim, raw and primitive approach to pagan/black metal and this is a review of their self released and self titled 2012 ep.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being added to the ep at times, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sound with primitive pagan metal riffing that dominates throughout the recording.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very raw and primitive sounding at times while also mixing in some melody and catchy style pagan metal riffing to create a sound of their own, while the lead guitars which are only used briefly are very dark sounding pagan/black metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars they use finger picking and full chords to add epic and medieval qualities to the ep.
Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams, while the lyrics cover Norse Paganism and Darkness, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Occulus and if you are a fan of pagan/black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Upon The Iron Throne" and "Impending Peril". RECOMMENDED BUY.
