This is a review of a split album between Norway's Kirkebrann and Visegard called "Kirkegard" which will be released in November by odium Records and we will start off the review with Kirkebrann a band that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays an old school style of Norwegian black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some acoustic guitars and clean vocals before going into a heavier direction. High pitched black metal screams are also a very huge part of their side of the recording while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Most of the music is heaviyl rooted in the 90's Norwegian style but modern at the same time as well as the riffs also adding in a small mount of dark sounding melodies at times.
All of the musical instruments on their side of their recording also have a very powerful sound to them as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style when they are utilized, growling style vocals can also be heard briefly and acoustic guitars also return on the closing track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and cover blasphemy, darkness and winter themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Kirkebrann and if you are a fan of old school Norwegian black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Døden byr opp til dans" and "Hedensk dødsmarsj".
Next up is Visegard a band that plays an old school style of Norwegian black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark yet heavy sound while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized and clean playing can also be heard briefly.
