Poland's Thy Worshiper have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of ethno-folk and pagan black metal and this is a review of t heir 2021 album "Bajki o Staruchu" which will be released in November by Pagan Records.
A very dark yet ritualistic sound starts off the album along with some spoken word parts before going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams which also have their grim and high pitched moments while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the percussion also gives the songs more of a shamanistic atmosphere when t hey are utilized. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some songs also adding in a small amount of clean playing.
Female vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. Elements of folk and ethic music can also be heard quite a bit throughout the album as well as some songs also adding in death metal growls and whispers. when guitar solos and leads are finally utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon fairy tales about the old man who is the main character in the story.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Thy Worshiper and if you are a fan of pagan black and folk metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLJUDE " Aniołkowi nie wierz " " O kwiatku na grobie" and " Mgła". 8 out of 10.
