Morgal are a band from Finland that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very melodic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Nightmare Lord" which will be released on October 29th by Werewolf Records.
Ritualistic soundscapes start off the album along with some epic sounding synths before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while t he music also adds in a great amount of Swedish influenced melodies.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave tradition while angry shouts can also be heard in some parts of the recording. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also remaining very true to an old school style. as well as some of the riffing also showing some influences of the first wave era, clean playing can also be heard on the closing track.
On this recording Morgal goes for more of a raw, old school and melodic style of black emtal. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Witchery. Rituals, Chaos and War themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Morgal and if you are a fan of raw, melodic and old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Golden Sun Of Satan" "Flaming Mouth Of Baphomet" and "Mortifer". 8 out of 10.
